Illinois serial rapist on the run for 24 years caught in Missouri

The Illinois State Police have been after this man for decades. He’s a suspected serial rapist whose run from the law has come to an end as the US Marshalls have just captured him in Missouri.

According to the US Marshals bulletin released today, 72-year-old Herman Carroll was wanted for allegedly very serious crimes, including: predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and criminal sexual assault.

Herman Carroll was wanted after failing to appear in court after posting bail following his arrest on July 3, 2000 Sexual assault on a 12 year old girl. To clarify, you say he was convicted of previous child abuse offenses from 1983 and 1993.

According to the U.S. Marshals, on May 8, 2024, they learned that Herman Carroll may have been living in Branson, Missouri, and captured him three days later.

The list of law enforcement agencies that assisted in the arrest of Herman Carroll is vast and includes the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois, the Moultrie County Prosecutor’s Office, the Champaign County Prosecutor’s Office, the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department and the Stone County (Missouri) Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Department of Corrections, MWVFTF, Branson Police Department, Illinois Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center, Missouri FUSION Center, USMS Eastern District of Texas, USMS District of Alaska, USMS Western District of Arkansas and USMS District of Maryland.

The Illinois State Police file on Herman Carroll shows that he formerly lived in Peoria, Illinois. According to the report, he is being held in the Taney County, Missouri, jail awaiting extradition.
