A19 northbound closed for “emergency repairs”.

A19 northbound is partially closed from A182 Hall Walks (Easington) to A182 (Murton Interchange, Cold Hesledon) due to emergency repairs. The traffic should be able to cope well.

Repairs “could take up to three hours”

The overhead line engineers have completed their investigations. Subways between Chillingham Road and St James are expected to be closed for a further three hours.

When will subway services resume?

It is not yet known when metro services will resume. An overhead power line has broken between Manors and Byker and engineers are currently on site to repair it.

Nexus confirmed to ChronicleLive today that it could take a few hours for services to resume in the affected area.

Statement from Nexus

Nexus issued the following statement following the suspension this morning.

Due to a problem with the overhead wires, subway services are currently suspended between St James and Chillingham Road. At Manors a section of cable has fallen and needs to be repaired. This work will take a few hours.

“Ticket acceptance has been agreed with Stagecoach for lines 12, 22, 39/40, 62/63. Subway connections run to all other areas with some gaps in the timetable.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers. Please follow our website www.nexus.org.uk and our X page (formerly Twitter) @My_Metro for updates.”
