Officers set up a perimeter fence around the mall. Dick’s Sports Goods was evacuated.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – A juvenile was arrested and charged in connection with an attempted robbery at Dulles Town Center Mall on Saturday.

On May 11 at 4:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Foot Locker store at the Virginia mall to locate a reported robbery, an injured person and a suspect who had run away. Investigators determined that the suspect left the store with stolen merchandise and shot an employee twice with a pellet gun as he attempted to escape. The suspect left the pellet gun and merchandise in the store before fleeing.

After the robbery, officers set up a perimeter around the mall. Dick’s Sporting Goods was also evacuated while officers searched for the suspect.

Operations of other stores were not affected and the mall was not closed.

The injured employee was treated by the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System and declined to be transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police found the suspect near a car dealership on Russell Branch Parkway. According to investigators, the suspect was injured in the altercation with the store employee. After he was located, the suspect was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injury. After his release from the hospital, he was charged with petit larceny, brandishing a firearm and unlawful wounding and is being held at the Leesburg Juvenile Detention Center.
