RCS suspends teacher for indecent deprivation of liberty

RANDLEMAN, NC (WGHP) — A woman who charged by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office with indecent acts was suspended from her teaching position.

On July 1, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sexual allegations and began an investigation.


After completing the investigation, investigators charged 39-year-old Britney Marie Vernon with three counts of sexual abuse of a student and three counts of sexual abuse of a student.

On Wednesday, Vernon was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was held on $75,000 bail.

According to Randolph County Schools, Vernon was a health teacher at Randleman High School. She has worked for the school district since 2018 and has been at RHS since August 2023. She is currently suspended with pay, according to the school district.
