Uber passenger’s car attacked by Uber driver in Salem

An Uber driver is facing charges after crashing a passenger’s car following an argument. Joseph Eager parked his car at Salem Park and Ride and called an Uber to take him to Boston’s Logan Airport for a business trip. During the ride, Eager noticed the driver acting strange and asked if he was OK. The driver, identified as Hochy Lora, became angry and made Eager get out of the car. “He kept repeating everything to me and kept saying, ‘I’m OK, are you OK?’ multiple times, and that’s when I knew something was definitely wrong,” Eager said. Eager filed a complaint with Uber and had another driver take him to the airport. The next day, Eager received a call from police saying Lora had allegedly attacked his car. “He drove his Tesla bumper to bumper, front to front of the vehicles, pushed my car out of the parking space into the light pole, knocked it over, then got out of the car and this is all captured on his Tesla Sentry video, he punctured all four wheels,” Eager said. Lora was arrested and charged with reckless conduct, criminal damage and resisting arrest. He is currently in custody. “The conduct described here is reprehensible and the driver’s access to the Uber platform was suspended as soon as the incident was reported to us. We will assist law enforcement in this investigation as best we can,” Uber said. Eager said he is grateful he was not injured but wants to see more accountability for what happened. “When you look for new cars in this market, you have to increase the percentage just for the markups. Then you’re looking at probably four times the interest rate when I bought this car. So now I’m in trouble,” Eager said.

An Uber driver is facing charges after he totaled a passenger’s car following an altercation.

Joseph Eager parked his car at Salem Park and Ride and called an Uber to take him to Boston’s Logan Airport for a business trip.

During the ride, Eager noticed that the driver was acting strange and asked if everything was okay.

The driver, identified as Hochy Lora, became angry and forced Eager to get out of the car.

“He kept repeating, ‘I’m fine, are you?’ over and over again, multiple times, and that’s when I knew something was definitely wrong,” Eager said.

Eager filed a complaint with Uber and had another driver take him to the airport.

The next day, Eager received a call from the police telling him that Lora had allegedly attacked his car.

“He drove his Tesla bumper to bumper head-on into the other vehicles, pushed my car out of the parking space and into a light pole, knocked it over, then got out of the car and it’s all caught on his Tesla Sentry video. All four wheels were slashed,” Eager said.

Lora was arrested and charged with reckless conduct, criminal damage and resisting arrest.

He is currently being held in custody.

“The behavior described here is reprehensible and the driver’s access to the Uber platform was blocked as soon as the incident was reported to us. We will cooperate with law enforcement authorities as best we can with this investigation,” Uber said.

Eager said he was grateful he was not injured but wanted more accountability for what happened.

“When you’re looking for new cars in this market, you have to increase the percentage on the markups alone. Then you’re probably looking at four times the interest rate I had when I bought the car. So now I’m in a bind,” Eager said.
