Coimbatore College student arrested for sexually harassing two female students | Chennai News

COIMBATORE: Kuniyamuthur police in Coimbatore city on Sunday evening arrested a 22-year-old college student for sexually harassing two girl students.

The arrested youth was identified as S Sri Dharsan of Amman Kovil Street, Vathiyar Vilai in Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district. He was studying in the second year of his MA (English Literature) at a private college in Coimbatore and was staying in a rented room in BK Pudur.

A 21-year-old student who was studying under him fell in love with him. He sexually harassed her and abused her and her family members with obscene language. She began to distance herself from Sri Dharsan.

On Saturday around 3 pm, the woman went to meet her friend in Kuniyamuthur. Sri Dharsan intercepted her and threatened her with dire consequences if she avoided him. He told her that he would show her private photos to others and circulate them on social media.

She filed a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur police, who have filed charges against Sri Dharsan under Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 296 (b) (obscene acts and songs), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (TNPHW) Act.

A 19-year-old woman from Theni district, who is pursuing her final BA degree from the same college, was also in love with Sri Dharsan. He allegedly sexually abused her and threatened her with dire consequences. Based on her complaint, Kuniyamuthur police filed another case against Sri Dharsan.

On Sunday evening he was arrested by the police and taken into custody.

Police said the youth sexually abused the women with their consent. But he fell in love with another student from the same college. The two women came to know about it and questioned Sri Dharsan. He started threatening them.
