24,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid owners must park outside because the car could catch fire – Action News Jax

Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, has issued a recall of plug-in hybrid minivans and asked owners of the vehicles to park outside.

The recall affects some Chrysler Pacifica hybrids built between 2017 and 2021, The Associated Press reported.

According to Reuters, around 19,000 vans were recalled in the US, 3,000 in Canada and 1,700 outside North America.

For some of these vehicles, this is already the second recall. However, the company said that they are still roadworthy.

The investigation is still ongoing, but the company said there is a “rare anomaly” in some battery cells that could cause a fire.

Owners are told to park outside and away from buildings and are not charged fees because of the fire hazard.

There were seven fires in recalled vans. All of the fires occurred when the vans were turned off and some were charging, the AP reported.

Engineers are working on a solution that includes a software upgrade that will detect the problem. If the anomaly is found, the dealer will replace the battery free of charge.

Owners will receive a letter in the mail telling them to bring the van in for service. Owners can also check the Mopar recall website to see if a van has been recalled. A vehicle identification number, or VIN, is required to search.
