MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Today is a First Alert Weather Day as there is a threat of strong to severe thunderstorms. Heat and humidity will increase again today, with highs near 90 degrees. Heat index temperatures are expected to rise above 95 degrees this afternoon.

This heat and humidity will favor the development of strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours. These will come from the west and could bring damaging winds, large hail and even tornadoes. First Alert meteorologists will be closely monitoring the weather this afternoon.

Looking ahead…

Once the low pressure system has passed, the rest of the week will see much better weather. There will be plenty of sunshine from tomorrow and into next weekend. Temperatures will cool down a bit and humidity will drop. Highs will be around 21 degrees in the middle of the week, and around 27 degrees again at the weekend. Little or no rainfall is expected between Tuesday and this time next week.
