Kyle Pitts to play WR and TE; Falcons OC says ‘sky is the limit’ in 2024

Fantasy football players are well aware of Kyle Pitts’ potential and inconsistency, but he could become a star in the 2024 season.

Especially since he will play as a wide receiver and tight end in a new offense.

“He’s basically learning two different positions,” Falcons Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson said, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There are some tight ends and some receivers. So he’s got a lot to do. He’s handled it really well. I’m just happy to see him getting more and more comfortable in the system.

“There are no limits to the kind of season he can have.”

Things will certainly look different in Atlanta this season after the NFC South team fired head coach Arthur Smith after three seasons.

Part of the problem has been an inability to fully utilize the potential of young stars like Pitts, Bijan Robinson and Drake London. It will be up to Robinson and new head coach Raheem Morris to find ways to do just that, and using Pitts as a tight end and wide receiver could accomplish the goal.

After all, the 2.08 m tall speedster can pose quite a problem for the opposing defense due to his combination of size, speed and athleticism.

His versatility, which allows him to play multiple positions, will help the offense compete against linebackers who aren’t fast enough or defensive backs who aren’t big enough to contain him further down the field.

This could also make Pitts a real tight end weapon for fantasy football players.

The University of Florida product seemed to be on his way to becoming a fantasy football star with 1,026 receiving yards as a rookie in 2021. However, he only managed 356 yards as injuries limited him to 10 games in his sophomore year.

Pitts also had an unspectacular 667 receiving yards last season and never managed to catch more than three touchdowns in a season in the early stages of his career.

Drafting him at this point is a risky but worthwhile gamble for any fantasy football player. But since there isn’t as much depth at the tight end position as there is at the wide receiver position, the fact that Atlanta’s coaching staff is looking for different ways to maximize his skillset is an encouraging sign.
