Greenville man arrested overnight after hours-long standoff

GREENVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — A man was arrested after a nearly six-hour standoff with police.

According to Greenville police, numerous tips were received regarding the whereabouts of 28-year-old Jesse York, who had an arrest warrant out for domestic violence.

Officers found the suspect in a residence on Cypress Street. Based on the information, officers learned that York had said he would shoot anyone found outside.

Due to these threats, the Darke County Special Response Team was called to assist. Nearby residents were notified of the situation and the road was closed.

Police made multiple attempts to contact York via social media and the patrol car’s intercom to ask him to leave the house, and obtained a search warrant for the apartment.

After several hours of unsuccessful attempts to make contact, the Special Response Team fired several gas canisters into the house. Police say York could be seen walking around the house, but he did not respond to attempts to make contact.

The Darke County SRT entered the home shortly after 6 a.m. on July 13 and arrested York, nearly six hours after the standoff began.

York was taken to the Darke County Jail, where he was held without bail on the original domestic violence charge, along with additional charges including panicking and obstruction of public office.
