Shots fired in Desert Cedars backyard, man arrested

Maricopa police have arrested a man accused of firing multiple shots in a backyard in Desert Cedars this evening.

According to MPD spokeswoman Monica Williams, officers arrested 53-year-old Michael Anthony Ramirez on several charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm within city limits.

At around 9 p.m., police responded to a home in the 44500 block of West Windrose Drive. Ramirez’s wife said she and her husband got into an argument because he was drunk.

“At some point during the argument, the man armed himself with a handgun and fired several shots in the backyard,” Williams said. “When officers arrived on the scene, the man exited the home, surrendered the weapon as instructed, and was taken into custody.”

“Fortunately, no one was hurt,” Williams added.
