5 Buffalo Beer Facts to Know This Week: July 3

1. Mortalis Brewing launches Quad Holiday beer

Mortalis Brewing is releasing four new beers in time for Independence Day celebrations this week. The releases include Gemini: Bomb Pop Sour, featuring raspberry, sweet cherry, key lime, and blue raspberry (16-ounce, 4-pack); Red + White + Blue Sour, a virtual collaboration with Florida’s Arkane Aleworks, featuring raspberry, blueberry, Madagascar vanilla, and American-blended Skittles (16-ounce, 4-pack); OldManBearMa: Nelson Double IPA, brewed with Citra, Simcoe, and Freestyle Nelson hops (16-ounce, 4-pack); and Yakima Blend DIPA, brewed with hand-selected batches of Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops (16-ounce, 4-pack). Mortalis Buffalo will be open on July 3 (4pm-11pm), July 5 (12pm-11pm), July 6 (11am-11pm), and July 7 (11am-6pm). These beers are available now.





2. Beer Kind Brewing will officially open on July 5

Beer Kind Brewing, located at 2765 Kenmore Ave. in the Town of Tonawanda, will officially open to the public on July 5 at 4 p.m. The brewery has on-site parking with overflow parking across the street, plenty of seating, a dog-friendly patio, an entertainment area with a couch, TV and games, and a central tap wall, which features a handful of Beer Kind beers, including American Beam American Ale, Naked Pig Brown Ale, Smile Be Hoppy American IPA, Your Brain on Hops Hazy IPA and Patrick, the Pal Pale Ale. Beer Kind also offers canned cocktails and non-alcoholic options. Husband and wife owners Alex and Jen Buckley will be on hand for the grand opening. They will also be open July 6 (noon to 11 p.m.) and Sunday (noon to 6 p.m.).

3. Buffalo Cider Hall Closes on Chandler Street

Buffalo Cider Hall, located across the street from the former Thin Man Brewery on Chandler St., has closed. The closure was announced via social media. “This weekend will be the last weekend Buffalo Cider Hall will be open to the public. This is not goodbye! We will continue our efforts in the Lake Ontario tasting room (at) Donovan Orchards Estate Ciders. We have truly enjoyed serving Buffalo over the past six years. We appreciate every private party, wedding, dog event, yoga, craft night, etc. This place has been very special to so many!” The location was operated by Blackbird Cider Works and is separate from Resurgence Brewing.

4. Step Out Buffalo & Pizza Plant Pods & Pints ​​Staycation Contest

Step Out Buffalo and Pizza Plant have teamed up for a Pods & Pints ​​Staycation contest. The prize includes an overnight stay at the Courtyard Marriott at Canalside and a $50 gift certificate to Pizza Plant Canalside, home to Pod City Beer Labs. “Play tourist in Buffalo by enjoying a day around the Buffalo waterfront, then come back for a famous Pod and drinks at Pizza Plant Canalside located in the Courtyard Marriott,” the contest states. 5. Opening of the voting period for the Best of 716

Voting is open for the Buffalo News Best of 716 and there are plenty of beer-related categories to vote for. Brewed And Bottled Craft Beer Shop, New York Beer Project, Hamburg Brewing, Fattey Beer Co and The Griffon Gastropub are nominated for Best Beer List, New York Beer Project, Brickyard Brewing, Britesmith Brewing, Wayland Brewing and Big Ditch Brewing are up for Best Brewery and Consumer Beverage, Fattey Beer, Brewed & Bottled, Aurora Brew Works and Premier Gourmet are nominated for Best Beer Store. Elsewhere, Buffalo RiverWorks is nominated for Best Live Music Venue, Gene McCarthy’s is up for Best Irish Bar and Hofbrauhaus Buffalo is nominated for Best German Restaurant.
