Shop owner in French Quarter attacked with railroad spike

NEW ORLEANS – The owner of a French Quarter store is in the hospital after a man attacked him with a railroad spike.

It happened Saturday night in the 800 block of Decatur Street.

New Orleans police said the suspect, identified by police as Leif Rosell, threw a brick through the window of the victim’s business. When the victim came out of the business and confronted the perpetrator, a physical altercation ensued.

According to police, Rosell then swung a railroad spike and hit the victim on the head before fleeing the scene.

The victim was then taken to hospital with head trauma while police arrested Rosell. Police say he is accused of aggravated assault by cutting.
