Heat alerts in place for Houston Pride parade Saturday

Tonight’s forecast:

This evening, the weather will be mild and humid with temperatures that will struggle to cool off. Overnight lows will only fall into the 80s.

Forecast for Saturday:

Saturday will be hot and humid with highs in the mid-90s and a heat index of 106° to 110°. Houston and most of Southeast Texas are under a heat advisory from noon to 7 p.m. There is also a chance of more storms developing in the late afternoon and evening. If you are heading to Pride on Saturday, be sure to drink plenty of water.

In the footsteps of the tropics:

The storm area in the Caribbean remains disorganized, but the likelihood of developing into a tropical storm or depression has increased slightly. It struggles against dry air and the numerous lands that surround it, which slows down its tropical development. It has a 30% chance of developing this weekend. No impacts are anticipated to Southeast Texas. The high pressure area over Texas prevents any type of effect for us.

Of more concern is the eastern Atlantic tropical system, about 1,400 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands. This will become our first hurricane of the year. This storm is moving westward at a speed of 15 to 20 mph. It will approach the Windward Islands by the end of the weekend.

This wave is heading towards the Caribbean Sea by the middle of next week. While it is still too early to tell what impacts this might have on the Gulf Coast, it will almost certainly result in elevated rip current risks for the July 4 weekend.

10-day forecast:

Temperatures get hotter next week with Houston getting closer to 100°. The 4th is hot as a firecracker!
