Ricardo Garecathe coach of Chilewas officially suspended from CONMEBOLGareca, who is set to lead Chile against Canada, is barred from attending his team’s press conferences and match due to tournament rule violations.

Chile’s assistant coach Sergio Santín spoke on behalf of Gareca about the unfolding drama. On his way to the scheduled press conference, Gareca received notification from CONMEBOL that he was suspended for one match. This last-minute development forced Gareca to return to the team hotel and Santín to speak to the media in his absence.

The sanctions resulted from a breach of CONMEBOL rules, specifically Articles 104 and 145, which relate to the late arrival of their teams on the field after half-time. The Chilean federation was also fined $15,000 for this violation, which shows how seriously the governing body takes such violations.

Ricardo Gareca will miss a match at the Copa América

Ricardo Gareca will miss a match at the Copa América. Article 145 of the tournament’s rules sets out the penalties for such violations. It states that if players on a team arrive late on the field, disciplinary measures can range from warnings for first offenses to fines and suspensions for subsequent offenses. In this case, Gareca was held responsible for his team’s repeated lateness, which led to the penalties imposed.

According to Santín, Gareca’s suspension means that he will not be allowed to play in Chile’s next match; instead, he will have to watch from the stands.

Chile needs to win against their direct rivals Canada (four points) to have any chance of advancing to the next round of the Copa America. To create the perfect scenario, Argentina also needs to beat or draw Peru.
