LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – With just one week left until Independence Day celebrations begin, law enforcement agencies across the Las Vegas Valley have their hands full.

On Thursday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced that the number of tickets and confiscations for illegal fireworks issued in 2023 has already been exceeded.

Police released photos of the number of items already found since they began enforcing the fireworks ban last weekend.

Two 30-foot containers had already been filled on Thursday. Photos posted on the authority’s X-account showed numerous illegal fireworks.

Police also found that the most common excuse given by people caught with illegal fireworks was that they did not know the fireworks were illegal.

The LVMPD advised that the best advice is to only purchase safe and sensible fireworks throughout Clark County.

Safe and sensible fireworks are only allowed in Clark County from June 28 through July 4. Anyone who spots illegal fireworks should not call 911, but instead call the non-emergency number 311 or report it online. The information will then be used to collect data and plan future law enforcement actions.
