Report: Police identify 24-year-old man killed in fiery crash in Shelton

SHELTON, CT — Police have identified a 24-year-old man killed in a fire accident late Sunday night in Shelton, according to a new report.

WTNH News 8 reported Wednesday afternoon that police identified the man as Mauricio Sierra Zapata, 24, of Shelton.

Police Det. Christopher Nugent previously said Shelton police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a report of a car on fire at the intersection of Commerce and Research Drive around 11:30 p.m.

According to Nugent, first responders pulled a man from the car and took him to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Shelton Police Department’s accident reconstruction team is actively investigating the incident, Nugent said.
