Authorities respond to another traffic accident near Hazel | News

Upon arrival of the CCFR, the vehicle was found lying on its side with a person inside who was unable to get out. CCFR firefighters attempted to stabilize the vehicle so that firefighters could safely extricate the driver without the vehicle moving. Because the roof of the car was damaged and dented, the CCFR had to use hydraulic rescue equipment, also known as rescue shears, to remove a portion of the roof so medical personnel could access and treat the driver before they could extricate him from the vehicle. The driver was then transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital and subsequently flown to another medical facility for treatment of his injuries.

“CCFR would like to thank the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office deputy and emergency medical personnel for their assistance with the recovery,” said Taylor Black, CCFR spokesperson. “Without the additional help, the situation would have been even more difficult. As always, it takes a team and Calloway County has some great people serving our county.”

CCFR was assisted at the scene by CCSO, Murray-Calloway County EMS and Paul’s Towing. Black urged drivers to use caution on the new section of US 641 South as they approach Hazel.

“CCFR has responded to numerous crashes and rollover accidents at this exact location,” Black said. “We urge all drivers to use caution and reduce their speed when entering the curve on the new Highway 641 South as they come into Hazel. This area is also where the road will be converted from a four-lane to a two-lane road. If you are traveling south, you can use the left lane to go straight to Hazel and the right lane will be a turn lane only.”
