POCSO court sentences man to 10 years in prison for child rape in Thane

Thane: A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a special POCSO court on Friday for raping a minor girl in Thane’s Kopri area.

According to the prosecution, Murali Kanhaiyalal Chouhan (24), a mason, lured the five-year-old girl to a toilet in her residential area on November 24, 2018 and raped her there.

He was detained by the victim’s father and others as he attempted to flee after the incident.

During the trial, 10 witnesses were examined, including the owner of the toilet complex and her son, said special public prosecutors Sandhya Mhatre and Vivek Kadu.

Special Judge for POCSO Act DS Deshmukh sentenced Chouhan to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000, it said.
