14-year-old charged with sexual abuse of 91-year-old victim: MCSO

MARION COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A 14-year-old boy has been accused by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) of sexually assaulting a 91-year-old woman.

MCSO officials reported that the victim was awakened at her home near Reddick on Sunday, June 9, by the suspect lurking around her house.

The youth then sexually abused the victim, officials said.

Sheriff Woods said: “It was a shock that someone would commit such an act against a 91-year-old, but it is truly disturbing when we see the young age of the man arrested. While I firmly believe he should be held accountable for his crime, as a father my sympathies go out to his family.”

According to investigators, they were able to clearly identify the 14-year-old suspect using DNA evidence.

In a conversation between the suspect and a detective, the teenager admitted to breaking into the victim’s apartment, beating her and then sexually abusing her.

Officers arrested the suspect on Monday and handed him over to the juvenile justice authority.
