Officials investigate fire damage to house on Ashley River Road

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A house fire in the early hours of the morning completely burned down part of a home on Ashley River Road.

St. Andrews Fire Chief Kevin Berkel said fire crews from the St. Andrews Fire Department and the City of Charleston responded to the 2400 block of Ashley River Road shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning after a structure fire was reported.

When firefighters arrived, they found “heavy fires” covering the front porch and extending to the second floor.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes after they had finished extinguishing all the embers.

One person was at home during the fire but escaped without injury.

No firefighters were injured.

Berkel said he went to the scene to begin investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

The investigation is still ongoing, but the cause has not yet been determined.
