Large-scale search for missing surfer at Surfers Point in Prevelly called off due to adverse weather

The search for a missing surfer off the southwest coast has been suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

Police and other emergency services, including local sea rescue and jet ski rescue teams, searched the area for the man on Saturday morning before severe weather forced them to abandon the search.

Police were alerted to the missing surfer shortly after 4.30pm on Friday, who disappeared at Surfers Point in Prevelly, about a 10-minute drive from Margaret River.

“The male surfer, in his 40s, was seen in the water by another surfer and required assistance; however, due to rough conditions, he could not be helped,” police said in a statement.

“Numerous police and rescue personnel were dispatched to the area and a preliminary search was carried out in the water and beach area.

“The surfer has not yet been found.”

Surfers Point remains closed and the public is advised to avoid the area.
