The accident occurred south of Pepper Lane on US Highway 81. According to authorities, the 20-year-old

was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in the left of the two southbound lanes of US 81. In the right lane was a semi-trailer with a trailer. The semi-trailer

allegedly

moved into the left lane at an obviously unsafe time, forcing the pickup truck to swerve to the left to avoid a collision. This maneuver caused the pickup truck to lose control, roll over, and cross the grassy median into the northbound lanes, where it collided with an oncoming Chevrolet Express van before coming to a stop.

Gonzalez reportedly suffered serious injuries and was transported by EMS to a local medical facility for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
