Oregon family seeks answers after veteran killed in hit-and-run

Hillsboro police say they are still working to identify the driver of the dark pickup truck that struck and killed 33-year-old Christopher Aguilera on May 16.

HILLSBORO, Oregon – An Oregon family is asking for answers after 33-year-old Christopher Aguilera was hit and killed on May 16.

According to Hillsboro Police, officers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash at the corner of Southeast TV Highway and Southeast Cypress Street at around 10:08 p.m. Police said emergency responders attempted to save Aguilera’s life, but unfortunately he did not survive his injuries.

His family told KGW they were devastated.

“I was depressed. I just can’t see it happening,” said Aguilera’s mother, Janet Aguilera. “I just close my eyes and keep seeing an accident happen where I wasn’t there for him.”

Janet Aguilera says Christopher Aguilera was a veteran who served in Afghanistan, and although she hasn’t seen him in three years, she remembers his deep love of family and nature.

“He had a good sense of humor and knew how to make people laugh,” Janet said. “I miss him very much.”

Hillsboro police say no one has been arrested yet. However, they are working to get more surveillance video that they hope will help them with the investigation. But for now, they are looking for this dark colored pickup truck in the picture below.

And even though the family can’t get him back, they are asking the public for help in identifying Christopher Aguilera’s killer.

“He has brothers and sisters who take care of him. And we miss him very much,” said Christopher Aguilera’s uncle Joe.

His uncle also tells KGW that he hasn’t seen Christopher in two years and is struggling with the news.

“I just can’t understand how people are so reckless towards people,” Joe said. “He needs to come forward, please. If anyone out there saw anything, please notify the local Hillsboro Police Department and let’s get this cleared up, because this guy is still out there and he could still be running people over.”
