*Suspect in custody* Delaware State Police detectives investigate Millsboro homicide – Delaware State Police

Delaware State Police have arrested a 19-year-old Malachi Water of Millsboro, Delaware, as a suspect in a murder that occurred yesterday morning in Millsboro that left one man dead. Waters was taken into custody in Maryland shortly after the incident.

On June 4, 2024, at approximately 10:47 a.m., the Millsboro Police Department and Delaware State Police responded to a shooting on Saint Thomas Boulevard in the city limits of Millsboro. When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound and began life-saving measures. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he died. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

Due to the nature of the investigation, Millsboro Police requested that the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit take over the investigation. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Malachi Waters, approached the victim with a gun and began firing, striking the victim. After shots were fired, Waters fled the scene in a car.

A short time later, detectives spotted the suspect’s vehicle and, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team, stopped the vehicle in Delmar near the Delaware-Maryland border. From there, the suspect fled and was quickly arrested in Delmar, Maryland.

If extradited to Delaware, he will be charged with the following crimes:

  • First Degree Murder (Felony)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony)
