1 arrested after Miami street takeover and reckless driving – NBC 6 South Florida

A close-up video shows a street takeover and reckless driving at a Miami intersection that ended with the arrest of at least one driver.

The footage shows a gray sedan at the corner of NW 37th Avenue and NW 7th Street spinning and drifting as a handful of bystanders watch and take video.

The car screeches around the corners, burning its tires while a person hangs out the passenger window. After a few of these turns, an unmarked patrol car turns on its lights and interrupts the spectacle.

The limousine drives off and the police pursue it. It is unclear whether the driver was arrested.

Another driver, 18-year-old Valentino Santos, was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen orange Chevrolet Camaro that swerved between lanes, drove against the direction of traffic, fled a traffic stop and nearly crashed into other cars as it reached the roadway crossing, according to Miami-Dade County police.

Police said they first saw Santos’ car without license plates at the corner of NW 27th Avenue and NW 36th Street.

An officer discreetly followed the car until it reached the intersection where others were driving recklessly. When officers turned on their lights and attempted to stop the driver, he allegedly sped away.

The car that Santos was allegedly driving cannot be seen in the footage of the takeover.

Later, an officer observed “an accident involving the same vehicle” at the corner of NW 27th Avenue and NW 11th Street. Police said the orange Camaro fled the scene, “leaving property damage and rendering no aid.”

Police said they followed the Camaro until it came to a stop at the corner of Alton Road and 2nd Street in Miami Beach, where they arrested Santos, who was wearing a mask and gloves.

Authorities also said a 17-year-old was a passenger in his car.

Santos was charged with third-degree grand larceny, eluding police, leaving the scene of an accident and inducing a child to commit a crime.
