FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man who died in a crash following a short chase on May 24 was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner identified the man as 36-year-old Justin Yanez of Fresno.

According to sheriff’s officials, they attempted to stop a motorcycle near the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Feland Avenue in Fresno County on the afternoon of May 24. The motorcycle failed to yield and fled at a high rate of speed.

A brief chase followed. Sheriff’s officials say just before 4:30 p.m., the motorcycle collided with a sedan at the intersection of Shields and Valentine Avenue after failing to stop at a stop sign.

Officials said the motorcyclist, Yanez, and a woman who was riding on the motorcycle with him were taken to the hospital. It was later announced that Yanez had succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the sedan was also taken to a local hospital for treatment but did not suffer serious injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, it was confirmed that Yanez had an arrest warrant for traffic violations.
