Person is sucked into jet engine and killed as plane prepares for takeoff

One person died when he was sucked into the engine of a KLM Embraer jet.

One person died on Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands after they were sucked into the engine of an aircraft preparing to take off. KLM Embraer Jet on the move The plane from Denmark was full of passengers and the engine was running when the person got caught in the engine.

The person was killed yesterday, when the KLM flight KL1341 was preparing to depart Amsterdam at around 2:25 p.m. local time (8:25 a.m. Eastern Time). The victim has not yet been identified by authorities and it is not clear whether he was a passenger at the airport or a member of ground staff at Schiphol. In a statement, Dutch airline KLM said:

Today a fatal incident occurred at Schiphol where a person got caught in a running aircraft engine. Unfortunately, the person died. It was flight KL1341 bound for Billund. We are currently taking care of the passengers and employees who witnessed the incident at Schiphol.

According to the Dutch border police, which monitors Security at Schiphol AirportPassengers were evacuated from the aircraft after death, reports BBC News. After the passengers were taken off the plane, pictures were released showing the Embraer plane surrounded by fire trucks and ambulances next to the departure terminal. As the site reports:

The identity of the deceased has not yet been established and it is too early to say whether it was an accident or a form of suicide, a spokesman for the Reuters news agency said.

Various Dutch media have speculated that the victim could be an employee who was busy pushing back an aircraft before takeoff.

An investigation has now been launched by Criminal prosecution in the Netherlands to find out how the incident happened.

Although it is shocking to hear about, this death is far from the first case of a person being killed by a jet engine. Earlier this year, a person was found dead inside a jet engine in Salt Lake City and last year a Airport employee was sucked into a jet engine when it started.
