About 700 dead in landslide in Papua New Guinea, UN estimates

According to the United Nations International Organization for Migration, around 670 people, including many children, were killed on Friday after a landslide flooded several villages in Papua New Guinea.

Local officials extrapolated the estimate based on the number of buried houses – more than 150 – in the northern province of Enga, said Serhan Aktoprak, head of the UN migration agency’s mission in the Pacific state north of Australia.
