29-year-old city resident killed in the afternoon

A 29-year-old Dover man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the same neighborhood where another man was shot and killed earlier this month.

Dover police were called to a shooting in the area of New Castle Avenue and East Water Street around 4:20 p.m. They found the victim with a gunshot wound “to the upper torso,” police said in a news release. He was taken to the nearby Bayhealth Kent Campus, where he was pronounced dead.

“Investigators are actively working on the description of the suspect and the motive for the murder,” the press release said.

Police have not immediately released further details about the shooting. The victim’s identity will be released after his family is notified.

This was the second fatal shooting in Dover this month. The first occurred in the same neighborhood, a few blocks away on River Road. In that case, a 17-year-old shot and killed a 54-year-old Seaford man, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dover police at 302-736-7130. Callers can remain anonymous, the release said. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333. A cash reward is available for information leading to an arrest, the release said.
