Mass fish deaths in Periyar River due to industrial pollution

Currently, there are about 336 industrial establishments in the Edayar Industrial Area.

On May 20, 2024, a mass fish mortality event occurred in the Periyar river in Kerala, leaving a trail of devastation and sparking outrage. The incident, suspected to be caused by industrial pollution from the Edayar Industrial Area, has caused huge losses to fish farmers and disrupted the local ecosystem.
