Incidents of stray dogs attacking beachgoers on the rise in Goa: report

There have been several incidents in Goa where stray dogs have attacked beachgoers.

Panjim:

A government-appointed rescue organization in Goa said on Thursday that there have been several incidents of stray dogs attacking beachgoers in the state recently.

In separate incidents, three of the agency’s lifeguards were also attacked by packs of stray dogs on various beaches in the state, said a statement from Drishti Marine Lifesavers, the organization responsible for beach rescue.

Two foreign nationals – a woman each from Russia and Canada – were bitten by stray dogs in two separate incidents on Benaulim beach in April, while actress Rayya Labib suffered bruises after being chased by stray dogs on Colva beach last week while vacationing in the state, an agency spokesperson said.

There have also been reports of encounters between stray dogs and beachgoers recently. For example, earlier this month, a 24-year-old woman from Loutolim in the state was bitten six to seven times by the dogs on Benaulim beach, he said.
