Salisbury man convicted of sexually abusing two minors

SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison for sexually abusing two minors.

John Mumford, 35, pleaded guilty in February to two separate counts of sexual abuse of a minor, and last week a Wicomico County judge sentenced him to 22 years in prison. Following his sentencing, Mumford will serve five years of probation under sex offender supervision and treatment and will also be under lifetime sex offender supervision. He must also register as a Level III sex offender for life. If he violates the terms of his probation, he could face another 28 years in prison.

The investigation began in 2022 when it was discovered that Mumford had sexually abused a minor child. It was later learned that Mumford had sexually abused another minor child in 2018. Although the child immediately notified the adults in the home, the abuse was not reported to authorities in 2018. We’re told both victims were under 12 years old.
