Mumbai: Man gets 20 years in prison for raping a minor | Mumbai News

A Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) in Mumbai on Tuesday convicted a 24-year-old man and sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a schoolgirl in November 2022.

Special Sessions Court Judge SC Jadhav found the man guilty of the offense and convicted him under Sections 363 and 376(1) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act.

Apart from 20 years rigorous imprisonment, he was also fined Rs 20,000. In case of non-compliance, his sentence will be increased by two months of simple imprisonment.

According to the case, the 14-year-old girl went to class on November 4, 2022 and did not return when her mother filed a police report about kidnapping.

On November 12, police tracked down the girl and the man in Aurangabad and brought them to Mumbai.

“The accused, who was already married and had children, entered into a relationship with the minor girl, took her to various lodges and hotels in Dadar, Pune and Aurangabad and raped her,” said the inspector conducting the investigation.

The court relied on the evidence presented by the police and awarded the man the sentence.
