Eleven years in prison for sexually abusing stepdaughter

KOTA BARU: A 44-year-old man who sexually abused and threatened his stepdaughter has been sentenced to 11 years in prison and one stroke of the cane by the sessions court.

Judge Nik Habri Muhamad sentenced the man, who works as a labourer, after he pleaded guilty to both charges.

The defendant received a sentence of eight years, one stroke of the cane for sexual assault and three years in prison for threatening the girl two weeks ago.

The court ordered both sentences to be imposed simultaneously from the date of arrest on May 14, Bernama reported.

According to the first charge, he was accused of sexually abusing the 16-year-old girl at a house in Kampung Lubok Jambu, Kota Baru, at 3pm on May 9.

The charge falls under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017, which carries a 20-year prison sentence and flogging upon conviction.

On the same day and time, he was also charged with criminal threats and injuring the victim with a knife. The charge is under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison or a fine, or both.
