The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said the man was helping maintain trails at the resort, which was closed for the season.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — An Eldora Ski Area employee was killed Thursday when a tree fell on him while he was performing trail maintenance work, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

It happened shortly after 10 a.m. at the ski resort southwest of Nederland in Boulder County.

The sheriff’s office said the 52-year-old employee helps with off-season maintenance at the resort, which closed for the season at the end of April.

Ski patrol immediately began CPR on the man and a rescue helicopter was en route, but the man died before arriving, the sheriff’s office said.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this morning, resulting in the death of a valued member of our team. We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased,” Eldora said in a statement. “We recognize that this event will have a profound impact on everyone at Eldora, and we encourage every member of our team to contact Human Resources to access our grief and mental health resources. We have provided medical assistance to our local emergency responders for their quick response and tremendous gratitude.”

It is not clear what caused the tree to fall.

The deceased employee could not be identified.
