Man arrested on train to Raleigh after escaping custody in Georgia

Raleigh police officers arrested a man Sunday who authorities say escaped from custody in Georgia.

Raleigh police officers and the department’s fugitive unit arrested Kendrick Hurst while he was aboard an Amtrak train in Raleigh.

Authorities in Georgia said Hurst was in custody at a hospital in Newton County and escaped from the hospital on May 4.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said several charges have been filed against Newton stemming from an incident on April 28, including:

  • Terrorist threats and acts.
  • Escape or attempt to escape from a police officer.
  • Intentionally obstructing law enforcement officers.
  • Countless traffic violations.

Hurst faces several new charges in connection with his escape. Authorities in Georgia are looking for anyone who helped Hurst escape.
