Ohio police officer shot dead, suspect still at large – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

EUCLID, Ohio – A police officer was shot and killed during an altercation in northeast Ohio and the suspect is still at large.

A Euclid police officer was shot during an altercation in the city of Euclid, Cuyahoga County.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the 300 block of East 211th Street for a disturbance when a suspect ambushed an officer and shot him. Cleveland 19 reported.

The suspect was identified as Deshawn Anthony Vaughn. He is a 24-year-old black man with black hair and brown eyes.

The Euclid Police Department issued an Ohio Blue Alert statewide. According to the Ohio Attorney General websiteA Blue Alert is a “notification system designed to seek public assistance when a police officer is seriously injured, killed or missing and the suspect or suspects are still at large.”

He is 1.80 m tall and weighs 100 kg, as can be read on the poster issued with the blue alert.

The officer was taken to University Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Cleveland News 5 reported. The officer’s identity was not released.

Vaughn was last seen fleeing the scene after shooting the officer. The affected vehicle is a white Volkswagen Passat built in 2017 with the OH license plate R947155.

Euclid PD told Fox 8 in a statement that Vaughn is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently assisting Euclid Police in the search for Vaughn, WKYC reported. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is also assisting in the investigation. Fox 8 reported.
