A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a pickup truck in Slidell, according to police

Gonzalez was arrested for driving under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and vehicular homicide.

SLIDELL, La. — A Slidell man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly struck another man with his pickup truck on Gause Boulevard W. (Highway 190W), according to Slidell police.

The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Friday when police were alerted to a “serious accident.”

Eric Gonzalez, 36, was arrested. Officials said Gonzalez was driving a pickup truck. His truck left the road and struck 42-year-old Jairus Pratt, who was walking on the side of the road.

“When officers arrived, they saw an injured man in the roadway and a red 2005 Chevrolet Silverado lying heavily damaged in a ditch.”

Police said Pratt was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Slidell police said they believe Gonzalez was under the influence based on evidence collected at the scene. Although officials did not immediately provide specific details about that evidence.

Officials said Saturday that toxicology results were still pending.

Gonzalez was charged with driving under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and homicide.
