A Briton died in a road accident in Brittany on Thursday (May 9) after being hit by a car on a departmental road.

The unnamed 49-year-old, who was on vacation in France, was hit by a car near Gaël (Ille-et-Vilaine) shortly before noon.

He was traveling with two friends, also on motorcycles.

Emergency services were called but were unable to save him and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 52-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital in Rennes, but is said to have only sustained minor injuries.

The local prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Local media reported that the man lived near London.

He and his friends – apparently also English – were on a motorcycle trip to Pornic (Loire-Atlantique).
