Houston’s food scene is always buzzing, but not all the information we receive is worthy of a full article. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not useful. We often hear about promotions, events like wine and dinners, limited-time specials, cooking classes, and new dishes. Small Bites rounds up these tasty tidbits to keep you up to date on what’s happening in Houston.

“Buy 1, Get 1 Free” Entries This Week at Bar Louie

Feed yourself and a friend or loved one for free! From Monday, July 29 to Sunday, August 4, select Bar Louie Some establishments offer free starters with the purchase of one main course. You must mention the offer to receive itand this only applies to adult-only entries. Main courses include Cajun Salmon and Shrimp, Monterey Chicken and the new Flaming Burger with spicy chili aioli, American cheese, roasted peppers and pepper jack cheese. If you are a Bar Louie loyalty program member and have the app, you are eligible for the buy-one-get-one-free appetizer offer during this promotion. The lowest priced appetizer will be considered free, the offer is not eligible for Steak Fries or the Big Louie, and the offer cannot be combined with other offers.

Tuesday 7/30: Wine tasting at Sonoma Wine Bar in Garden Oaks

Tuesday July 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., for only $25, try five wines Since Sandhi Wines in Oregon and Evening Vineyards from Santa Rita Hills, California. Darren PalaceNational Sales Manager for both brands, will be on hand to guide the tasting, discuss the wines and answer questions. Purchase three bottles from the tasting and you will also receive a complimentary flatbread of your choice. Come anytime during tasting hours, or RSVP online.

Wednesday 8/1: Houston Restaurant Weeks 2024 begins!

It’s the beginning of August, and that means the start of everyone’s favorite month for charity meals. In addition to diners enjoying special prix fixe meals at hundreds of restaurants for lunch, brunch, or dinner, every Houston Restaurant Weeks ordered meal benefits the Houston Food Bank or a food bank near the restaurant. Thursday 8/2 – Friday 8/3: Enjoy seasonal blueberry treats at Michael’s Cookie Jar

If blueberries are your thing (so to speak), stop by Michael’s Cookie Jar location — downtown at 711 Louisiana or 5333 Weslayan in West University — to pick up Mallomars with blueberries. These are only available on the two days mentioned above. Chocolate-dipped Mallomars are made with a homemade graham cracker topped with a filling and a marshmallow made with berries. Moorhead Blueberry Farm in Conroe. Stop by to pick up your order (available while supplies last) or, for added security, pre-order online.

Monday, August 5: Buy Gulf Oysters for a Dollar Each

National Oyster Day is Monday, August 5th, so both Liberty and Oysterette Cuisine Locations at 4224 San Felipe in River Oaks and 963 Bunker Hill in Memorial offer Gulf Coast Oysters for Just a Dollar Each while supplies last. The special is valid all day and the River Oaks store hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Memorial store also opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m.

08/17: Take a road trip to Bryan to learn how to cook fish

August 17 from noon to 3:30 p.m., chef and owner Brian Light The chef at Ronin Restaurant at 800 North Main in Bryan is teaching a class on how to prepare fish. The event includes a meal, and drinks are available for purchase separately. The cost is $75 plus Eventbrite fees ($79.57 total) per attendee. Tickets are available online.

Enjoy Half Price Smash Burgers in Montrose

New Montrose Bar Jethro’s Cocktail Barlocated at 95 Tuam opposite Elronow offers half price smash burgers every Tuesday from open to close. They are usually $10.50, making the cost just $5.25. Jethro’s smash burger features a crispy-edged, smashed patty made from a blend of Angus beef brisket, short ribs and chuck, served with a house spread, pickles and American cheese on toasted brioche buns. Order or fries costs $4 and you can add jumpechopped onions for $1.50 or ranch for $1.

Over the summer, donate $5 to any Logan’s Truck Stop has K9s for WarriorsYou’ll receive a return card that’s good for $10 off your next $40 purchase, but more importantly, you’ll help find a service dog for a veteran in need of a home. That sounds like a big win for everyone involved. Return cards become valid 12 hours after receipt and expire on November 10th.
