White Dudes For Harris’ Twitter account suspended after online rally

An online rally by White Dudes for Harris raised $4 million in donations within hours, but then the X account was suspended, raising concerns among organizers.

Contributors to the virtual YouTube event included JJ Abrams, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Groban, Sean Astin, Michael Kelly, Josh Gad, Jeff Bridges and Mark Hamill.

But the organizers soon discovered that their X account had been suspended. According to a notification from X posted by an organizer, the account was suspended “for violating our suspension evasion rules.” The reasoning drew ridicule and concern from those on the call.

One said: “We scared @elonmusk and @DonaldTrumpJr so bad tonight that they locked our account and won’t let us back in. These guys are scared of the success we had tonight but we won’t give up. More to come tomorrow (unless they shut down my account too!).

war of stars Legend Mark Hamill, who was on the call, said: “In just over three hours, @dudes4harris’ Zoom call sparked $4 million in donations for @KamalaHarris… Apparently someone else got the same effect.”

Other online users suspect that the suspension may have been due to multiple accounts with similar names claiming to be legitimate.

The suspension came a day after some X users were angered by Elon Musk’s retweet and cheers for a deepfake AI video in which he disparaged presidential candidate Kamala Harris and Democrats. Critics claimed that post itself violated X’s rules on disinformation.

The White Dudes for Harris online rally had a peak viewership of 150,000, organizers said.

“I can imagine her as president,” Bridges said. “A female president, man, how exciting.”

The event was partly based on the success of an online rally by Black Women for Harris last week, which was followed by other fundraising events, including one by White Women for Harris.

Vice presidential candidates such as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also participated in last night’s conference call.

Filmmaker JJ Abrams promised $50,000 for the call. NYU professor Scott Galloway also promised war of stars– thematic request: Hamill should say: “I am Luke Skywalker and I am here to save you, Mr. Galloway.”
