Jon Stewart criticizes Republicans’ “difficult” attempts to attack Kamala Harris

A revived Jon Stewart celebrated the political developments of the last week on The daily show Monday night while gloating over conservatives’ inability to strike a blow against Vice President Kamala Harris.

“In the space of a week, Democrats have gone from despair over a secure Trump presidency to joy over a statistical tie,” Stewart said during his monologue, “which feels like a victory right now.”

He also jokingly expressed his condolences to Donald Trump and his supporters.

“If I thought I had it all together and I was running against old Joe Biden and they pulled this off, I’d say, ‘Ref! Ref! Open your eyes!'” Stewart said, later telling the Republican Party, “But what’s done is done. You have to shift gears and recalibrate.”

How has this realignment gone so far? According to Stewart, the Republicans are “difficult.”

First, he played a recent clip in which Trump claims Harris “doesn’t like Jews.” Stewart noted that the attack “may ring hollow since Kamala Harris’ husband – let me check my notes – is Jewish.”

Stewart also showed a montage of right-wing pundits’ accusations that Harris had “slept her way to the top” and again appeared unimpressed.

“I don’t know, guys. You’re being awfully subtle here,” he joked. “Can’t you say that in a cruder way?”

He played the now infamous clip of right-wing podcaster Alex Lace calling Harris “the original Hawk Tuah girl.” Stewart responded, “That’s what I mean!”

“That’s the kind of substantive and elevated attitude from a guy who looks like he’s just one Mike’s Hard Lemonade away from getting into a fight at his sister’s wedding.”

Stewart added: “It’s so sexist to say Kamala Harris slept her way to the top. Joe Biden and Donald Trump literally slept their way to the top and we didn’t hear a peep about it.” The joke was accompanied by recent photos of Trump and Biden looking sleepy at public events.

Stewart also poked fun at Fox News’ recent back-and-forth over whether Kamala is too tough or too lenient on crime.

But of all the attacks against Harris that he recorded, Stewart seemed most annoyed by the idea that Harris’ high staff turnover was a liability.

“Their candidate is Donald Trump. His catchphrase is literally, ‘You’re fired!'” Stewart yelled. “Donald Trump has hired 44 cabinet members, 75% of them want nothing to do with the guy. His Secretary of State called him a ‘fucking idiot.’ His chief of staff said he was ‘the most flawed person I’ve ever met.’ You know why he needs a new vice presidential candidate? He tried to get the last one killed!”

Stewart saved criticism of Harris’ campaign for last, particularly an attack by a Newsmax commentator who criticized her for being half-Jamaican, half-Indian and married to a Jewish man. Another Newsmax commentator said, “That’s how desperate they are. Is she black? Is she Indian? Nobody knows.”

“Two races? In one person? Now I’ve seen it all,” Stewart said in a mocking, pearl-clutching imitation of them. “I heard she sent her DNA to 23andMe and it broke the computer.”

Stewart later said, “If these people ever saw Pizza Hut destroy Taco Bell, they would go crazy.”
