CHENNAI: The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has passed a resolution that films featuring star actors can only be released on OTT platforms eight weeks after their theatrical release.

The meeting, which was attended by TFPC members along with cinema owners, multiplex owners and members of the distributors’ association in Chennai, also discussed some important issues such as the gap between theatrical and OTT releases, big stars taking up multiple projects at the same time, cap on salaries and production costs and the like. Actor Dhanush was particularly mentioned in this context.

The Council also said new guidelines would be drawn up to ensure that new films receive appropriate theatrical release slots.

It has been decided to temporarily suspend the release of new films from August 16 until new regulations come into force. Producers are advised to complete the shooting of their respective films by October 30.

In addition, shooting of new films is expected to be suspended from November 1 as the council has to deal with other issues such as rising salaries of actors.
