Eight women report sexual harassment by cyclists in Greenwich, man faces charges

A man has been charged by police after eight women in Greenwich reported being sexually assaulted by a cyclist.

During a three-week period between July 3 and 24, eight women reported being approached by a man on a bicycle and then touched over their clothing.

The incidents are said to have occurred in Aldeburgh Street, Vanbrugh Hill, Halstow Road, Roan Street, Stratheden Road, Greenwich South Street, Oldfield Grove and Moorhead Way.

Eddwin Cortes-Pinerez, 39, of Mitcham Lane, Streatham, was arrested by police on Thursday as part of their investigation into the flood.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Monday that he had been charged with sexual touching, a breach of Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Cortes-Pinerez was due to appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates Court later on Monday.

Assistant Detective Sergeant Chris Handscombe, part of a team of detectives investigating serious and complex cases in south-east London, said: “The Metropolitan Police has an action plan to tackle violence against women and girls.

“The entire police force is determined to do much more to identify and catch the most dangerous and prolific criminals.

“I urge all victims to come forward and speak to the police. They will be listened to and supported.”
