2 men killed in hit-and-run outside Highland bar – Daily Bulletin

Two men died in a shooting outside a bar in the Highlands on Saturday night, July 27, following an argument over a hit-and-run accident, officials said.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. at the corner of Baseline Street and Cole Avenue in front of Joy’s Lounge. The men were found with gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital, said Mara Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

In a news release Sunday evening, the Sheriff’s Department identified those killed as Aaron Harris, 37, Highland, and Jonathan McConnell, 38, Corona.

The press release said investigators said McConnell was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the 210 Freeway when he left the roadway on a motorcycle and collided with a sedan carrying Harris and his two children, ages 2 and 5.

Harris drove McConnell off the highway, and McConnell met with several people he knew outside the lounge west of the highway, the press release said.

“Harris stopped his vehicle and yelled threats at McConnell. As McConnell approached the vehicle, Harris fired at McConnell and McConnell returned fire,” the press release said, naming Harris as the suspect and McConnell as the victim.

A third man suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the hand. The children and other people at the scene were unharmed, the sheriff’s department said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Shawn Thurman, Special Investigations Division, at (909) 890-4904.
