Ohio man and son arrested for shooting in apparent DUI incident | News

SOUTH LAUREL – Two Ohio men were arrested Friday afternoon after a father fired shots following an apparent road rage involving one of them on Adams Road, 10 miles south of London.

James F. Harness, 53, of Sardinia, Ohio, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Jacob Evan Harness, 26, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was charged with fourth-degree assault.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Nate Bishop was investigating a traffic accident (unrelated to this incident) when he heard yelling and ran toward the commotion.

The officer observed a person, later identified as Jacob Harness, exit his vehicle, which was parked directly in front of a semi-truck. Both were stopped at the intersection of Adams Road and KY 770 near Love’s Travel Stop and Sonny’s BBQ.

Jacob Harness ran back to the tractor-trailer as the truck driver exited. Dep. Bishop observed Jacob Harness grab the truck driver by the shirt and throw him to the ground. At about the same time, LCSO says, Dep. Bishop observed another man – later identified as James Harness – in a vehicle directly in front of Jacob Harness’ vehicle (which was also stopped at the intersection) exit his vehicle, open the trunk, retrieve a handgun and run toward the confrontation between his son and the truck driver.

James Harness fired numerous shots near other people and the confrontation between his son and the truck driver. Dep. Bishop disarmed him using voice commands and took him into custody at approximately 3:20 p.m.

Dep. Bishop reported that he heard the truck driver honk his horn once before the confrontation.

The truck driver did not appear to be seriously injured in the attack, and no other injuries were reported. Laurel Sheriff Deputy Matt Walker, along with numerous other Laurel Sheriff Deputies and officers from the London City Police, were on the scene.

The Harnesses were housed at the Laurel County Correctional Center. Both were released Saturday on $2,500 bail and are scheduled to appear in Laurel District Court Monday morning.
