OSBI investigates police-involved shooting in Helena | News

HELENA, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation of a police officer-involved shooting in Helena on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

According to OSBI, the Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance.

Around 6 p.m. Thursday, a Grant County deputy responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near Nash, according to an OSBI social media post. When the deputy attempted to make contact, a chase ensued. During the pursuit, a collision occurred between the suspect’s vehicle and another deputy’s vehicle.

The pursuit ended near the intersection of Carter Road and Webber Street in Helena. Officers gave the suspect directions, but he did not follow them and a shootout ensued, according to OSBI. No one was injured.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Ryan Adam Burpo. He was arrested and booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of endangering others while fleeing from a police officer, eluding a police officer, reckless driving, severely battering and assaulting a police officer, carrying a convicted felon or possessing a firearm, failure to carry a security clearance, and failure to carry a registration card.

According to OSBI, the investigation is still ongoing.
