Two people arrested after 80-year-old woman killed by stray bullet

The woman was sitting as a passenger in a vehicle when she was shot in the head by a stray bullet during an altercation nearby.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in a shooting that killed an 80-year-old woman after a graduation party at the Alamodome in May.

On May 26, police responded to the 600 block of Cesar Chavez around 10 p.m. on reports of a shootout between two groups of young men. Authorities said a man began shooting at two suspects as they attempted to rob him. The suspects then opened fire on the victim.

Heidi Silkworth, 80, was reportedly leaving a fellow graduate party passenger in a car when she was hit in the head by one of the bullets fired during the altercation.

Silkworth was taken to a local hospital where she later died. Another person was reportedly injured in the altercation.

Police Chief William McManus said they identified the suspects as 16-year-old and 19-year-old Jakob Rios and arrested both on the South Side on Friday.

The suspects face murder charges, but McManus said more charges could be filed as the investigation progresses.
