39-year-old man killed in Buffalo Grove garage fire – Chicago Tribune

The man who died Monday morning at a home in Buffalo Grove has not yet been identified, but the Lake County coroner’s office believes he lived in the northwest suburban home.

According to a press release from the Village of Buffalo Grove, firefighters responded to a call about a fire in the garage attached to the home around 10:20 a.m. to the 600 block of Woodhollow Lane. When they arrived, emergency responders saw heavy flames in the garage spreading to the two-story home.

One person has been reported missing.

“Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack with water hoses toward the garage and home while beginning a search for trapped occupants,” the statement said.

During the search, the only missing person, now identified by the coroner’s office as a 39-year-old man, was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Tuesday, his name had not been identified.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday by the coroner’s office indicated the man’s death “was due to thermal injuries” and smoke inhalation. Coroner’s office officials said he will be formally identified through “further scientific examination.”

Authorities said the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, the statement said. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and is being conducted by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department and the state fire marshal.

Fire departments from Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire, Lindenhurst, Lake Forest, Long Grove, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, Wauconda and Rolling Meadows, as well as the Buffalo Grove Public Works Department, assisted with the fire, the release said.
